SPIE
SPIE is an international non-profit society for optics and photonics, founded in 1955. It networks researchers and developers in the light-based fields of physics, including: optics, photonics and imaging technology.
SPIE promotes the latest technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, training, publications and patent applications. To this end, the association organizes and sponsors major technical forums, exhibitions and educational programs every year.
Their activities received particular attention in 2015, the International Year of Light proclaimed by the UN. Light-based technologies were highlighted in relation to practical applications in everyday life, going beyond lighting, e.g. in medical technology, IT communication and transportation.
