FAQs
How do I get an IEEE membership?
You have the option of obtaining IEEE membership as a professional or as a student.
Professional membership requires competencies in a field designated by the IEEE: Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communication, Education, Management, and Law and Policy.
As a student, you must complete at least 50% of the normal full-time academic program as a registered undergraduate or graduate student in a regular degree program. To be eligible for student membership in the IEEE, your degree program must be in an IEEE-defined field. Many universities offer so-called student branches for students. This gives students more favorable conditions.
What are the advantages of IEEE Membership?
The biggest advantage of IEEE membership is the opportunity for professional networking. You receive contacts from experts and specialists who work in the same research environment. There are also opportunities for continuing education, conference attendance, discounts on products and services, and free access to occasional journals and publications. You can meet new colleagues and find resources to help you advance your career.
Is IEEE membership worthwhile?
IEEE has an unrivaled network of experts, professionals and consultants. IEEE membership gives you the opportunity to network with members who specialize in your technical interests. IEEE membership opens doors to your professional development and provides the resources you need to acquire new skills in designated areas: Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communication, Education, Management, and Law and Policy.
